Do I need to sleep train my child?
No! It's totally up to you whether or not you want to - or feel like you need to - sleep train your child. Read more about considerations here.
Will sleep training damage my child's secure attachment to me?
In short, no. In fact, based on the way that a secure attachment is developed in the first place - with presence and support during difficult situations - we'd even argue that sleep training actually promotes a secure attachment.

What about crying?
Crying is a developmentally appropriate mode of how your child communicates as a newborn baby and well into early childhood. Children cry for a few reasons - to have their needs met, to share their emotion, or to protest their dissatisfaction with something. As parents, we feel it's important to support these feelings rather than supress them, and that is the mindset we share with our clients when it comes to sleep training. While we strive for unnecessary tears, we also understand that we are making changes around your child's sleep habits, and they'll likely protest these changes at first - and that is okay!
